Frequently Asked Questions

  • UNU Skincare is a barrier-first skincare brand designed for barrier-compromised skin — skin that feels dry, tight, reactive, inflamed, or easily irritated.

    Our formulas are:

    • Dermatologist-informed

    • Built around physiologic lipid ratios

    • Fragrance-free

    • Focused on structural repair, not trends

We create disciplined formulas that reinforce the skin barrier without overwhelming it.

  • Barrier-compromised skin occurs when the outermost layer of the skin becomes weakened.

    Common signs include:

    • Persistent dryness

    • Stinging or burning with products

    • Redness or irritation

    • Flaking

    • Tightness after cleansing

    • Skin that reacts easily

    Triggers may include:

    • Over-exfoliation

    • Harsh cleansers

    • Weather stress

    • Hormonal shifts

    • Skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis

When the barrier is disrupted, moisture escapes more easily and irritants penetrate more deeply. UNU products are designed to reinforce structure and restore balance.

  • UNU is designed for individuals navigating:

    • Eczema-prone skin

    • Sensitive skin

    • Reactive skin states

    • Postpartum skin shifts

    • Skin experiencing inflammation or irritation

    However:

    • UNU products are not medical treatments.

    • We do not claim to cure eczema or dermatitis.

    • Always consult your dermatologist for active flares or medical concerns.

  • Most skincare focuses on glow, actives, and rapid results.

    UNU focuses on structure.

    Our formulas are built around:

    • Ceramides

    • Cholesterol

    • Free fatty acids

    • Phytosphingosine

    • Balanced humectant systems

    • Controlled occlusion

We prioritize physiologic lipid ratios to support barrier integrity.

  • Yes. Always.

UNU never uses fragrance — synthetic or natural.

    This includes:

    • No parfum/fragrance

    • No essential oils

    • No masking fragrance

    • No botanical fragrance blends

Fragrance is one of the most common triggers for irritation in barrier-compromised skin. We remove it entirely.

  • We avoid unnecessary irritants and controversial additives. Our formulations are:

    • Free from parabens

    • Free from drying alcohols

    • Free from harsh surfactants

    • Free from fragrance

    • Free from steroids

    • Free from dyes

    • Designed with minimal ingredient load

Rather than marketing buzzwords, we focus on evidence-informed safety and compatibility.
“Clean” does not automatically mean safe for barrier-compromised skin states.

  • For dry or climate-stressed skin:

    1. Apply Barrier Support Oil to slightly damp skin.

    2. Follow with Barrier Repair Butter to seal in moisture.

    This layering provides:

    • Lipid reinforcement

    • Occlusive protection

    • Improved moisture retention

For moderate dryness, the oil alone may be sufficient.

  • No. UNU does not test finished products on animals.

  • UNU products are designed to be safe for use on flaring and eczema-prone skin, and are formulated with barrier-compatible, fragrance-free, intentionally restrained ingredient systems.

However, we recognize an important clinical reality:

When skin is actively inflamed or in a flare state, it can react to almost anything — including water, temperature shifts, friction, or previously tolerated products.

A reaction does not automatically mean an ingredient is harmful.
Often, it reflects the current skin state rather than the formulation itself.

    If you experience irritation:

    1. Discontinue use immediately.

    2. Document the reaction with clear, well-lit photos.

    3. Note when the product was applied and what other products were used concurrently.

    4. Email support with your order number and a detailed description of the skin response.

    5. Seek medical evaluation if symptoms are severe, spreading, painful, or persistent.

From a dermatologic perspective, compromised skin has a lowered tolerance threshold. During active inflammation, even supportive products may need to be paused until the skin stabilizes.

We take all reports seriously and review them carefully to ensure continued safety, refinement, and transparency.

If you are under dermatologic care, we recommend sharing the full INCI list with your provider before introducing any new product during an active flare.
